Sweet Rain and an Amazing Dinner
The heavens have finally opened and sweet rain has been falling for the past couple of days. After 30 days without a single drop, it’s amazing how a couple inches of rain can rejuvenate the Earth.

With no preservation plans on our schedule tonight, my beloved has taken over the meal responsibilities once again. When I walked through the door after work, my stomach leaped with delight from the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen. It was an amazing dinner of pork roast, mashed potatoes, cornbread and fresh cranberry ‘shelly’ beans with bacon and onion. Our teenager seemed incredibly thankful that something was actually being cooked tonight. All during last week’s Tomatopalooza, our stove was too busy to create something as trival as dinner.

For a family that rarely eats sandwiches, we ate plenty of them while I was busy canning. At one point in the process, the teenager walked in the kitchen looked around and declared that I had my priorities completely out of order. Apparently, it didn’t matter that I had made a four pie crusts, dozen meatloaves, or canned a 38 jars of tomato products. I had failed in my motherly duties to make his dinner.

Oh well, it won’t be the first or the last time, I’m sure.
